Tigress "Machamchi" who was about 11 years old died on the morning of 11.05.2022. Tigress Machamchi was rescued from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Umaria and brought to Van Vihar on 24.10.2018. At that time her age was about 7-8 years. She was very well acquainted with the environement of Van Vihar and she was completely healthy.
However for the past two days, the tigress has not taken her regular food which she has been doing quite often. Till 10.05.2022 late night she was behaving normally in her housing till late night but during the night patrol at around 4.45 am the team found her in an unconscious state in her housing. In the morning she was examined by wildlife doctor Van Vihar Dr. Atul Gupta and declared dead.
Post mortem of tigress "Machamchi" was conducted by the team comprising of Dr. Atul Gupta, wildlife doctor Van Vihar National Park, Dr. Aarti Saxena, State Animal Disease Investigation Laboratory, Bhopal, Dr. Pravesh Bhardwaj, State Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Prashant Deshmukh, Wildlife Conservation Trust and Dr. Rajat Kulkarni, Wild Life S.O.S. Van Vihar and other assistant medical team. After the post-mortem, her internal organs are being sent to School of Wild Life Forensic and Health, Jabalpur and Animal disease investigation laboratory Jahangirabad, Bhopal for further examination. The actual cause of death of the dead tigress will be known only after the post-mortem report. "Machamchi" was cremated in Van Vihar National Park in the presence of senior officials and other member as per the rules after the medical examination. In general entire Van Vihar team is saddened due to the sudden death of "Machamchi" tigress. Presently there are 13 tigers left in Van Vihar National Park.
